White Men's Rights

Picture
In the early 1800's, white men could vote. The rich federalist men had the most power in voting though, because they were rich, they were thought to be more responsible. The wealthy also had more education than the poor, and because of this, they were thought to be smarter as well. Andrew Jackson ran for president, sweeping the nation with the Jacksonian Democracy. This had more common men voting and putting more help towards the government. Jackson was a Westerner and a "poor common man" which helped the more common men to vote for him. Jackson also wanted states rights for the people, not federalist rights.
